Sports Round Up by Ben, Finley, Joe and Teddy
Sport at HWS
House Competitions At Hinchley Wood we have a variety of sports competitions between our seven houses (Redgrave, Homes, Adepitan, Ainslie, Lewis, Goodhew and Grey-Thompson) all named after famous athletes. They battle it out all year, every year to get points for their own houses in various activities such as: Dodgeball, Football, Netball, Cricket. Then all the points are added together and students battle it out on sports day at the end of the year. Sports day is a fun event for all students as they get to choose what event to do giving them freedom in what they choose. We surveyed 30 students and only 1 of them said they didn’t enjoy sports day. Ainslie won last year’s sports day by a long way with everyone performing well. Also on the survey’s, all of the pupils enjoyed the house tournament very much because they all thought that they were very entertaining and that they loved the competitive side to playing against all of the other forms in their year. Rugby The rugby sevens were on Tuesday 17th March 2015 where the team played rather well due to having no seven’s training. They won 5 games out of 6 and sadly the one they lost was the semi- finals. On Monday 23rd March 2015 they have another seven’s tournament it is the biggest unprofessional tournament in Europe. It is being broadcasted live on a rugby seven’s website. There are people coming from places like India, Dubai and loads of other countries just to play in this tournament. This is what Nick the captain had to say about the seven’s on Tuesday: ‘I think our team played really well in the tournament but what we need to improve loads is our line speed. I think if we had had a little more training we could have improved our performance by quite a bit. I am looking forward to our next seven’s tournament as it is the biggest unprofessional tournament in Europe and we hope to go one step further to the finals. I have great trust in my team and I think we are skilled enough to do well in this competition. I have faith in my team to do what they need to do so we can do well and compete at the highest level possible’ Football Against Rydens on the 18th of March 2015 the team played well but they could have played better, this is mainly due to the pitch being a bit boggy. The team still came away with a 6-3 win thanks to goals from Edward, coming on from the bench; Adam, both Sam’s, Archie and James. This is what Archie (the captain) had to say about the game: ‘I thought our performance was quite good considering we haven’t done training in quite a long time and our last performance was a lot better than yesterday. I think we deserved the result because we had all the possession and loads of shots but unfortunately a lot were just off target’. |
